Ranjana Sharma, Mumbai
A new class of blast-proof composite liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, under the brand name GoGas Elite, was launched in India by Confidence Petroleum India Limited, an LPG retailer, in association with Time Technoplast Limited, a technology-based innovative polymer product company.

Giving an insight into the comparison of composite cylinders to the traditional steel cylinders, Anil Jain, managing director and chief executive officer, Time Technoplast Limited said, “These composite fibreglass cylinders are 100 per cent safe and explosion-proof, much lighter in weight as compared to steel cylinders, translucent (enabling the view of the LPG inside) and are free from rusting and corrosion, when compared to conventional steel cylinders.”

He added, “The new-age technology has been primarily designed for aerospace application and later on adopted and fine tuned for domestic and commercial bottling of LPG. These composite fibreglass cylinders are lighter and superior alternative to traditional steel cylinders.”

Jain said, “Litesafe Composite Cylinders passes through stringent quality checks online and offline during production and are approved in India by the nodal agency Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation (PESO) and are gaining tremendous popularity worldwide due to its performance and quality as a safe product for the society, as GoGas Elite cylinders are tested and approved under International Standards (ISO 11119-3) and European Standards (EN 12245 and EN 14427).”

Incidentally, Time Technoplast has accreditations and product approvals from many countries by now. These include LPG SASA (South Africa), TUV Rhineland (Germany), PESO (India), ESMA (UAE), KGS (South Korea), DOSH (Malaysia), etc.

These composite cylinders are 30-40 per cent costlier than the conventional steel cylinders, as the raw material and manufacturing process used in them are completely different.

Explaining the objective of launching this cylinder, Nitin Khara, chairman and managing director, Confidence Group, stated, “We have launched composite LPG cylinders, keeping in view the safety concerns, particularly Indian households, and further, Indians use the latest technology products, which arebeing used in developed countries like European nations and Australia.”

He added, “As the composite LPG cylinders are blast-proof, the precious lives of innocent people are saved from the mistakes of others, which are otherwise likely to suffer in case of metal cylinders.”

Khara said, “The composite LPG cylinders are translucent, whereby one can get timely intimation as to the availability of gas in the cylinder and can book refills well in advance, thereby one is relieved from the sudden finish of gas as in metal cylinders.”

He added,“We have launched a mobile app as well as a separate website for immediate booking of new connections as well as refills, whereby one can get new connection hassle-free 24x7 without any paper formality just by paying the cost. We are appointing distributors and dealers in various states, whereby one can get easy connection without any paper formality.”

“The shelf life of a composite LPG cylinder is between 20 and 25 years. On the contrary, the shelf life of metal cylinders is between 10 and 12 years. The life of the outer jacket of composite LPG cylinder is over five years, and in case of any problem, the same can be replaced at a very nominal cost,” Khara said.
