Online training on ‘Post-Harvest Management of Agricultural Produce' by ICAR

A three days online training programme on ‘Post-Harvest Management of Agricultural Produce during natural calamities/disasters', was recently conducted at ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology, Ludhiana.

This training programme was jointly organised by ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana and National Institute of Disasters Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI, New Delhi. The purpose of the training programme was to create awareness among the participants regarding post-harvest management of agricultural produce in times of disasters/calamities or pandemic.

Dignitaries present in the inaugural session were Dr S.N. Jha, ADG (Process Engineering), ICAR, New Delhi, and Dr Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana. The conveners of this training programme were Dr K. Narsaiah from ICAR-CIPHET and professor Anil K. Gupta from NIDM, coordinators were Dr Th. Bidyalakshmi Devi and Er. Yogesh Bhaskar Kalnar, Scientists from ICAR-CIPHET and Dr Sanayanbi Hodam from NIDM. There were around 300 participants for the training programme from different places in the country and abroad.

Online training programme was inaugurated on by Dr S.N. Jha, ADG (Process Engineering), ICAR, New Delhi, and he delivered the talk about the new strategies to be developed in food production and processing which is useful to combat the disaster/pandemic. Dr Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, elaborated on the effect of Natural Calamities/ disease attack on post-harvest quality of agricultural produce.

Distinguished speakers Dr Indra Mani, HoD, Division of Agil Engg., ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, talked about the role of Agricultural Engineering in addressing the natural calamities/ pandemics. Different strategies to be evolved in post-harvest handling and management of agricultural produce to combat disasters were explained by Dr K Narsaiah, HoD (Act.) AS and EC Division, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana.
