FSSAI has asked the state food safety commissioners to keep a strict vigil on the quality of milk available to consumers this festive season. It has also asked the state authorities to consider transfers of food safety officers (FSOs) stationed in an area for a longer period.
Recently, many incidents were reported about adulteration and other malpractices related to milk and milk products, and the country’s apex food regulator stated that necessary action should be taken by the food safety commissioners under their jurisdiction for such incidences.
FSSAI issued an advisory in this regards and directed that the state authorities should keep a strict vigil on the milk chilling units, thereby eliminating the chances of adulteration or production of spurious milk entering the milk value chain.
It also directed the state machinery to intensify the surveillance during the festive season, when the demand of milk and milk product increases and generate local intelligence regarding malpractices into milk supplies.
The regulator also asked for a robust enforcement and testing infrastructure to verify the incidences and check the malpractices effectively, and asked the states to share the action taken report as well.
