Windfall for farmers continues, loan disbursal target raised to Rs 4,75,000 cr.
Farmers can continue to reap a financial harvest that first came as a windfall loan waiver of Rs 60,000 crore in 2008. Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee raised the target for loan disbursal to the farmers from the present Rs 3,75,000 crore to Rs 4,75,000 crore in 2011-12, nearly a 27% jump.

Fibre for longevity
A nine-year diet and health study was conducted by the National Institutes of Health and AARP which looked at the diets of more than 3 88,000 adults, in the age group of 50 to 71 years. A link was found between high-fibre diets and a lower risk of death from heart disease, infectious and respiratory illness and, in the case of men, certain cancers.
