PFNDAI announces national conference on December 5 Monday, November 02, 2009 08:00 IST Protein Foods & Nutrition Development Association of India (PFNDAI), an association to promote and create awareness about requirements of good quality proteins by humans for health and growth, will organise a one-day conference on “Are we ready for Global Markets?” on December 5, 2009, at Hotel Kohinoor Continental in Mumbai. The conference will be held along with the association's annual general meeting (AGM) at a nearby venue.
“With India being a top producer in milk, fruits & vegetables, animal products, several cereals and oilseeds and some spices, it has made a mark in agricultural production that has been acknowledged by the world. On the other hand, the recently enacted Food Safety & Standards Act which shifted the emphasis from adulteration to safety aligning with world-wide concerns about food safety, we decided to organise a conference to introspect into the state of the food industry and examine whether we can produce food products with global standards and what is needed to achieve the same,” PFNDAI said in a statement. According to the association, Indian fresh produce has reached the global markets in spite of some odds like traceability as in the case of grape export. Fresh mango is being exported much farther than Middle East. Today, Indian food industry has come of age and is producing high quality, safe and nutritious food products and Indian markets are bursting with such products. The organisers have invited industry CEOs, directors and research organisations for the inauguration. “With good technology and regulations, Indian food industry can have a healthy growth and produce high quality safe food products in order to rank among the top in global food markets. There will be leading food scientists and nutritionists to give their ideas about the need of directions in how safe and high quality food products with global standards could be produced,” the organisers said. A wide array of subjects from different angles of Indian food industry, different sectors including dairy, fruits & vegetables, cereals, newer safety aspects including risk analysis, traceability, as well as problems of supply chains will be discussed in the light of requirements of food products with global quality.
