Online food delivery marketplace foodpanda acquired Indian food delivery portal TastyKhana and three Mexican food delivery businesses, namely PedidosYa, SeMeAntoja and Superantojo.

TastyKhana
foodpanda’s acquisition of TastyKhana would extend the latter’s leading position in the country, which is one of the largest delivery markets worldwide.

TastyKhana, which commenced operations in 2007, would, however, continue to be an independent brand.

foodpanda and TastyKhana would partner with over 10,000 restaurants covering over 173 Indian cities.

Acquisitions in Mexico
foodpanda also acquired PedidosYa, SeMeAntoja and Superantojo, and is eyeing marketing leadership in Mexico.

Since December 2012, the group has been operating in Mexico under the hellofood brand. Following the acqusitions, Mexicans in ten cities would have over 2,500 eateries to choose from.

Ralf Wenzel, co-founder and managing director, foodpanda group, said, “The acquisitions allow us to extend our market leadership in India and improve our strong position in Mexico.”

“Combined with our efforts in other important markets such as Russia, Brazil and South-east Asia (where we already gained a leading position), we are best positioned to accelerate growth and become the Amazon of food ordering in emerging markets,” he added.

Rohit Chadda, managing director and co-founder, Foodpanda, said, “The acquisition of tastykhana further consolidates our position as the market leader in the online food ordering space in India.”

“The synergies between the two companies would help us offer the best possible choice and service to our customers,” he added.

Delivery Hero in Latin America
Delivery Hero acquired hellofood’s businesses in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, capturing its market leading position in these markets, and aggregating 17,500 restaurants across eleven Latin American countries (namely Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela).

Niklas Östberg, chief executive officer, Delivery Hero Holding, said, “Latin America plays a central role in our long-term strategy. With these acquisitions, we further extend our leading position in a region with tremendous growth.”
