Gourmet West opens outlet at Bangalore's Garuda Mall; third in country

fiogf49gjkf0d Gourmet West from Westside, which comes under the umbrella of Trent, the listed retail arm of Tata Group's dedicated food outlet, is now ramping up its national presence by opening its third store in the country and the second one in Bengaluru at the Garuda Mall. Within the next ten weeks, it will open its fourth outlet in Hyderabad.
"Our expansions are driven by the Trent-operated Westside reorganisation business strategy. The flagship outlet of Gourmet West at Mumbai's Kala Ghoda, which commenced operations 15 months ago, has now seen a significant customer interest driven by a demand for fresh produce viewed as high-frequency purchases. These cover home-grown and exotic produce of fruits, vegetables, a with selection of meats, bakery products and beverages from around the world," Gaurav Mahajan, chief operating officer, Westside, told F&B News in a telecon.
"Food retail is on a growth curve with a positive response for niche food products. The segment is driven by convenience and high quality products and service. A visible trend is the emergence of a category of customers seeking specialty products. This sees players like Gourmet West brace up for the big challenges like ensuring availability of the products on a consistent basis and where supply chain management is critical. There is also need for product innovation and therefore we are constantly bringing in new products by remaining constant contact with international food majors and suppliers or collaborating with companies to ensure the latest are available at Gourmet West," he added.
The store, which is located within the Westside outlets, is frequented by discerning customers looking at a platform with premier brands of exclusive-superior products.
"The gourmet foods include the highest quality cheeses, cold cuts, meats, olive oil, organic products, signature breads, dips and sauces, sandwiches and salads. The store is targeted at travel addicts, health buffs, epicures and those who love to experiment with global cuisine, Gourmet West is constantly working to take food shopping experience to the next level," he said.
It features a large selection items such as Gouda for that cheese platter and mozzarella for the thin crust pizza or gorgonzola. Further, the store has a range of cold cuts, fresh meats, PescaFresh range of packaged seafood including salmon, basa, queen fish, pre-cooked, marinated meat and kebabs. The imported products include pasta, sauces, vinegars, oils, condiments and accompaniments, cookies and confectionery, chips, snacks and frozen food. Besides an extensive spread of international dips, Mexican taco shells, Italian pasta, among others.
In addition, Gourmet West has an exhaustive list of organic/natural products including the best of international range such as breakfast cereal, herbal teas, herbs, nutribars, cookies, etc.
According to the Global Retail Development Index 2012, India ranks fifth among the top 30 emerging markets for retail. The factors contributing to the expansion in this sector are increased consumerism with a capacity to splurge on luxury items. Indians have also been abroad and are aware of the latest brands which has led to the transformation in the consumption pattern.
