Parbhat's chicken bacon out to lure the taste buds

"In the present health conscious society there was a need for a low-fat substitute without compromising the original taste of bacon. Recognising the need for such product we developed this unique products in our in-house R&D centre, which is made of pure chicken, which provides the same flavour and taste of pork bacon," said Mhatre.
Chiken Bacon is a smoked dish. Mhatre informed that it is designed in such a way that as soon as one puts it on a pan, it will release the specific aroma and flavour of bacon. After three months of test launch through its retail outlet Prabhat formally launched the product during the recent Uppercrust show in December.
Prabhat claims to be the first company to launch this kind of product. Mhatre said, "The product was launched keeping three kinds of clientele in mind. 1.Those who wanted low calorie substitute of bacon, 2.Those who want a newer variety of chicken, 3.Those who don't eat pork or beef because of religious belief."
Smoke flavour has made bacon very popular all over the world for various preparations like salads, pie sandwiches, pizzas. Bacon is very popular among processed variety of meat. In India people are not much aware about the product as very few companies offer bacon products, that too made from pork.
Mahtre said, "Initial response of the product has been very good. We have realised that consumer trend has positively changed for processed and frozen foods. I would like to highlight that for this product we are always in short supply and the retail purchase of the product from our outlet at Shivaji Park was minimum two packs and maximum 40 packs in case of a single buyer in the month of December."
As it is made of pure chicken meat, the product comes into the higher price range. It is available across Mumbai at Rs 70 for 200 gms. Mahtre also boasts, "Distributors who seven years ago refused to keep our products have started stocking chicken bacon as it has become a new and unique product in the frozen food segment. They give weekly orders for this product."
