Dr Rupali Ambegaonkar was designated Tea Association of Canada (TAC) tea sommelier by University of Toronto.
She is India’s first lady tea sommelier and owns the leaf tea brand Tea Culture of the World, which has brought tea blends from across the world to India.
What started off as Dr Ambegaonkar’s fondness for a particular blend of herbal tea soon became a passion. Her love for tea has taken her to different corners of the globe.
She even lived on a tea estate in China to learn the ancient secrets of blending and brewing, and continues to travel in her quest to bring back the finest teas from different parts of India and the world.
A true connoisseur, Dr Ambegaonkar has acquired an unparallelled knowledge of teas, which she puts to good practice to create delicate and unique blends suitable for all taste palates.
She said, “Listening to my inner conscience, and following her dreams has given her immense contentment and true happiness.”
“Being a qualified physiotherapist and leaving a promising career in medicine evoked doubts and disagreements in the family,” Dr Ambegaonkar added.
“Initially, it was very difficult to convince everyone. But I was absolutely certain about the path I chose to lead,” she added. The TAC Tea Sommelier certification would encourage her to proceed towards her passion and help her become one of the most credible voices in the Indian tea scenario.
