NEW LAUNCHES

Ashok Leyland's new Comet 1611 to Bangalore
Saturday, 30 September, 2006, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Nandita Vijay, Bangalore
in the food and beverage sector, Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group flagship in India unveiled Comet 1611 to capitalise on the larger traffic in courier, parcel and logistics opportunities. The new vehicle features a factory built cab and offers up to 10% savings in fuel costs. Comet 1611is designed to meet the growing demand in rated payload segments such as containers, parcel, courier, white goods and tankers. The Comet 1611 vehicle is engineered to improve the profitability of the users. It is entering the market at a time when the overall buoyancy in the economy is manifesting in accelerated growth at the top and bottom end of the payload band. However, market research has identified this growing sub-segment in the otherwise shrinking 4x2 rigid segment that Comet 1611 is targe-ting. The new vehicle becomes an attractive proposition in the 10T to 10.5T payload band where the 10 KL tankers for a variety of liquid goods and many light load trucks operate, said Vinod K Dasari, chief operating officer, Ashok Leyland.

Extensive performance trials have shown excellent fuel efficiency up to 10% better than existing models in this class of vehicles. With fuel accounting for over 60% of the operating cost, Comet 1611 addresses the top-of-the-mind concern of customers.

Additional loading span, fully built body options and the comfortable driver cab boost customer profitability. At 20 ft, Comet 1611 offers extra loading span than vehicles in its class. This translates to proportionately higher revenue in voluminous applications. Customers also stand to gain from the fully-built options such as containers and tankers. "They can earn from day one with ready-to-use vehicles," explained Dasari.

The Comet 1611 comes with an ergonomic, spacious, all-steel, factory-built cab, replete with 4-way adjustable seats and a wide windscreen for good all-round visibility. Day and sleeper cab options are available. Reliability and uptime are key concerns for customers which is addressed by Ashok Leyland through a wide dealer network and easy availability of genuine spares through its national helpline.
