Thailand FDA approval of Balchem’s OptiMSM expands innovation opportunities
Wednesday, 22 April, 2026, 12 : 00 PM [IST]
New Jersey, USA
Balchem announced that OptiMSM, its methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) ingredient for skin and joint health, has been granted approval from the Thailand Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for supplement use, with an approved maximum daily intake of 1 gram per day. Secured in collaboration with leading food and pharmaceutical ingredients distributor Rama Production Co., this milestone enables manufacturers in Thailand to leverage this premium, science-backed MSM ingredient to develop new product formulations targeting beauty-from-within, joint health, muscle recovery and active aging.

The Thai population is growing older, with people aged 60 and over now outnumbering those under 15 by 4.1 million. This demographic shift is driving increased demand for solutions that support key aspects of active aging such as mobility, vitality and overall well-being. As consumers strive to feel and look their best for longer, beauty has also emerged as a key priority. 1 in 4 consumers in Asia-Pacific reported purchasing food or beverage products to improve physical appearance between 2024 and 2025.

OptiMSM can help brands meet this growing demand, offering a source of sulphur, a key building block of joints and connective tissues, that helps maintain joint function and support healthy skin, hair and nails. The nutrient also supports the production of molecules such as glutathione, which plays a key role in the body’s antioxidant response. Together, these clinically researched benefits position OptiMSM as a trusted ingredient for active and healthy aging, reinforced by its exceptional purity, quality and efficacy. With approval in Thailand, OptiMSM provides formulators with greater flexibility to develop effective joint health, beauty-from-within, and active aging solutions aligned with local regulatory requirements.

Jessica Arnaly, senior marketing & business development manager, Balchem Human Nutrition & Health, said, “APAC represents a promising growth market and we’re excited to help our partners unlock new regional opportunities with confidence, leveraging our premium, science-backed, FDA-approved ingredient, OptiMSM. We’re proud to partner with Rama Production in Thailand to help local brands innovate and deliver products that meet consumers’ evolving health and wellness needs.”

Prakaithip Ekwongsupasarn, assistant sales director at Rama Production, said, “As an OptiMSM distributor in Thailand, we are proud to bring a globally recognised ingredient to support joint health and beauty-from-within solutions for the Thai market.”
