Poland-based dairy major Polmlek has strengthened its packaging and processing capabilities by adopting advanced aseptic spouted pouch filling technology from IMA Fillshape to launch a new range of low-acid dairy products and desserts. The move reflects the rapidly growing global demand for spouted pouches, a format increasingly preferred for its consumer convenience and space efficiency across the supply chain.
Spouted pouches are gaining traction worldwide as they are easy to handle, portable and require significantly less storage space compared to traditional pre-formed cups. As part of its product innovation strategy, Polmlek was looking for a modern, consumer-friendly packaging solution for its new dairy portfolio. IMA Fillshape emerged as the technology partner of choice, being the only company globally capable of supplying a high-speed rotary aseptic pouch filling machine suitable for both high- and low-acid products.
At the heart of this investment is the Ermetika Aseptic EAS240, a continuous-motion rotary filler with a capacity of up to 240 pouches per minute. The machine operates with pre-made pouches, spouts and caps, which are assembled and sterilized using Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP) technology. Filling and capping take place within a sterile isolator, supported by dedicated skids for VHP preparation and cleaning and sterilisation cycles, including CIP-COP and SIP-SOP processes.
The new line is being used to fill products such as Polmlek homogenized cheese strawberry, Polmlek prebiotic strawberry, and desserts including Polmlek nut and chocolate milk dessert and Polmlek poezja Lux strawberry flavoured dessert. The technology allows the production of extended shelf life (ESL) products with refrigerated shelf life of up to 60 days, as well as fully aseptic high- and low-acid products that can be stored at ambient temperatures for 6 to 12 months.
Commenting on the development, Monika Bialobrzewska, vice president, Mazowiecka Spólka Mleczarska, said the new aseptic production line marks a major milestone for Polmlek. She noted that Poland’s first aseptic spouted pouch rotary filler gives the company a clear competitive edge by enabling the launch of innovative ESL and aseptic dairy products designed for modern, on-the-go consumption across offices, hotels, cafés and travel environments.
