Plant-based food solutions specialist Planteneers, part of the Stern-Wywiol Gruppe, has completed five years of operations, marking a significant milestone in its journey to support the global nutrition transition through innovative, scalable plant-based solutions.
Founded with the vision of making “plant-based the new normal,” Planteneers has evolved into a global player with operations spanning three continents and a team of around 50 specialists. The company today offers more than 1,200 formulations across categories including meat, fish, dairy, cheese and deli alternatives, catering to rapidly evolving consumer and customer demands.
According to Dr. Matthias Moser, managing director, Food Ingredients Division, Stern-Wywiol Gruppe, the company’s growth reflects a broader shift in food consumption. While early adoption was driven largely by sustainability, current consumer expectations now extend to taste, nutrition, clean labels and affordability. “Plant-based alone is no longer enough. Products must deliver on protein content, fiber, enjoyment and health,” he noted.
Planteneers’ recent innovations include marbled plant-based steaks, developed in collaboration with Handtmann, advances in fish alternatives, and a high-protein plant-based cheese slice offering elastic texture with up to 8% protein, addressing key market gaps.
Research and development remain central to the company’s strategy, with growing focus on mycelium, fermentation-derived proteins and clean-label functional systems. The company believes alternative proteins will follow a growth trajectory similar to organic foods, eventually securing a firm place in mainstream diets.
Planteneers is also actively shaping industry dialogue, evidenced by its Protein Forward Summit, which brought together stakeholders across the value chain. Leveraging in-house synergies within the Stern-Wywiol Gruppe — including flavour, enzyme and micronutrient expertise — has enabled faster innovation and market readiness.
Looking ahead, Planteneers expects rising demand for healthy snacking, balanced nutrition and alternative proteins, supported by its expanding footprint in the US and Asia, including a planned technology centre in Singapore.
