Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export sector achieved remarkable success in 2025, marking the third consecutive year of record-breaking export turnover, which reached US $8.6 billion. This achievement reflects a major shift in agricultural production thinking, stronger export strategies, and deeper integration into international markets.
A key factor in this growth was the expansion of market access, especially in China. In 2025 alone, Vietnam signed five official export protocols with China, covering products such as passion fruit and fresh jackfruit. In addition, fresh pomelo was approved for export to Australia, a market known for strict technical and safety standards. These developments have opened new opportunities for Vietnamese farmers and exporters.
According to experts, official approval for export not only creates new market openings but also encourages improvements in quarantine, food safety, and product traceability essential elements for sustainable industry growth. The second half of 2025 saw a significant surge in both export volume and value, driven largely by the strong comeback of durian exports, which remains one of the country’s most valuable export fruits.
China continues to be Vietnam’s most important market, with annual fruit imports worth approximately US $78 billion, although Vietnamese shipments account for less than US $5 billion—indicating considerable potential for future growth with strategic cooperation.
Beyond fresh fruit shipments, investment in deep processing, such as frozen durian, is emerging as a new driver of export value. Large-scale processing facilities, like the high-tech fruit complex approved in Gia Lai province, are expected to enhance competitiveness further.
Looking ahead, many in the industry believe bananas could be Vietnam’s next major export product, with improved disease-resistant varieties and strong global demand. If key products such as durian, banana, pomelo and coconut are developed within closed value chains and existing export protocols are fully utilized, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export turnover could reach US $10 billion in 2026.
