Great India Food Street to cook 800kg of multi-grain khichdi at WFI ’17
Thursday, 02 November, 2017, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Ashwani Maindola, New Delhi
In a bid to popularise Indian cuisine internationally and build interest in and demand for indigenous ingredients in the global markets, Great India Food Street - a part of the inaugural essay of World Food India (WFI), which is slated to take place in New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan between November 3 and 5, 2017 - will cook 800kg of multi-grain khichdi, branded as India Khichdi, on November 4.

Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, brand ambassador for the event, stated that he and his colleagues will cook it live in a giant kadhai having a capacity of 1,000 litre, attempting a world record.

“Khichdi is India’s wonder staple food. Not only is it considered the healthiest prepared food in the country, but it is also eaten across the length and breadth of the country. It symbolises India’s great culture of unity in diversity at its best, and therefore, it has been selected,” he added.

Investments
Food processing industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal stated that the event will generate investments worth over $10 billion, which, in turn, willgenerate over a million jobs in the country.

“Companies from countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, etc. have already committed investments,” she added.

“It has never happened in the country before that companies from across the globe have come under one roof to participate in an event in such a grand manner,” Badal said.

“Investment agreements worth $10 billion will be signed during the three-day event, and this would help in doubling the food processing companies’ and farmers’ incomes,” she added.

Badal said, “There is a great sense of resolve amongst world economies to collaborate with India, particularly after the recent announcement of the Ease of Doing Business rankings, where India has jumped 30 places up and was the top country to have undergone radical reforms.”

On the occasion, the ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI) will also open a investor portal called Nivesh Bandhu, which will offer all the relevant investment-related information. This will include information about clusters, mega food parks,region-wise food product information through food maps, etc.
