been tagged as the largest milk producing country. India manufacturers almost everything required for the dairy industry. In fact the country has become self-sufficient and is also exporting equipments. However these indigenised equipments have to be suitable for the country's tropical environment. Further with the increasing input cost of all raw materials and power it becomes necessary to use technologies that are energy efficient. Thus Joyam has developed the two-stage water ring vacuum pump and introduced it in almost all industries. Especially dairies that have vacuum pump applications in milk evaporators, dryers and so on.
Customers have appreciated the two-stage pump that has been developed based on the designs of some of the leading manufacturers of world repute and modified to suit the Indian tropical environment. The two-stage vacuum pump has apparent advantage of low sealing water consumption. Joyam makes the 15 HP two-stage vacuum pump TS 15, which has seal water requirement of 20 LPM against the WV - 30/15 HP requiring 30 LPM. Additionally it is energy saving.
The selection of the correct pump depends on many variables like condensable vapors, seal water temperature and air leakage in the system. After determining the pump's capacity either a single or two-stage pump can be selected. The ultimate vacuum is dependant on the seal water temperature. However, the two-stage construction of the pump extends the vacuum level and makes it mechanically possible to reach a higher vacuum close to the vapor pressure of seal water temperature, which is otherwise not possible with a single stage pump. The performance curve of the single stage pump starts dropping after 85-90% vacuum is created, whereas the two-stage pump curve is more flat and achieves higher vacuum. This is the reason, why it achieves the no load vacuum of 720 mm Hg at a sealing water temperature of 30º C. It can also achieve a 735 mm Hg vacuum for a sealing water temperature of 15º C. In short one can use one size smaller two-stage pump in place of a single stage pump. This directly saves power consumption.
Several single stage vacuum pumps in dairy have been replaced by Joyam's one or two size smaller two-stage vacuum pump. Drying or distillation for the final removal of moisture takes more time as the process achieves vapor pressure from the solvent or water. The two- stage pump helps lower drying batch time and improves the product quality and yield.
