The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), South India's largest cooperative dairy federation, has appointed A S Premanath as its managing director and chief executive officer on permanent basis.

Owned and managed by milk producers of Karnataka, the Federation has over 2.13 million milk producers in over 11,443 dairy cooperative societies at the village level, functioning under 13 district cooperative milk unions in the state.

The key objective of the Federation is to usher rural prosperity through dairy development. During the last four decades of cooperative dairy development by KMF, the dairy industry in the state has progressed from a situation of milk-scarcity to that of milk-surplus.

Nationally, KMF is now the second largest dairy cooperative after the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which owns Amul.
