Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan convened a comprehensive virtual meeting with agriculture ministers and senior officials from multiple states, reviewing the progress of the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and the Krishi Unnati Scheme, while also outlining key decisions aimed at strengthening farmers’ incomes and agricultural productivity.
As the current financial year nears its close, Chouhan stressed the urgent need for states to fully and efficiently utilise the funds released under central schemes by March 31, emphasising that delays undermine the intended impact on the ground. The meeting reviewed state-wise and scheme-wise implementation, urging states to ensure timely deployment of all allotted resources to bolster agricultural infrastructure, productivity and farmer welfare.
Highlighting the Government’s commitment to price support interventions, the Union Minister reiterated that the Centre is providing strong price support through large-scale procurement of key Rabi crops under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA). Approvals include the procurement of significant quantities of gram, mustard and lentil in major producing states to protect farmers against market volatility and distressed sales.
Chouhan also approved the ‘Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission’, aimed at ensuring that by 2030-31 all pigeon pea, urad and lentil offered by pre-registered farmers will be procured through central nodal agencies. This long-term initiative is intended to provide assured markets and prices, boost pulses cultivation, improve soil health, and enhance nutritional security, while reducing import dependency.
The Agriculture Minister underscored that these measures — spanning price support, procurement assurances, and dedicated scheme implementation — are designed to create a robust safety net for farmers, strengthen rural incomes, and accelerate agricultural transformation through coordinated action between the Centre and states.
