FSSAI unveils new logo for organic foods
Wednesday, 05 June, 2024, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Kimberley Almeida, Mumbai
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), recently introduced its new logo for organic foods. This move by FSSAI will help consumers to correctly identify authentic food. This new logo has been designed to specify the standards of organic and non-organic foods. Now, organic food products cannot be sold without this new logo.

The logo has been developed by the FSSAI in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), and Participatory Guarantee System for India (PGS-India) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The unified logo is an identity mark which will have the line Jaivik Bharat at the bottom of the logo.

The logo is green in colour with one circle, leaf and tick mark on it. The circle represents global holistic wellness, the green leaf represents nature, the tick mark represents the product is FSSAI certified as organic, and the green colour represents the natural environment.

According to new rules, each product shall carry a certification or quality assurance mark in addition to the labelling requirements of one of the systems mentioned in (a) above in addition to the FSSAI logo. All organic foods shall also comply with the packaging and labelling requirements specified under the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011.

Ashwin Bhadri, CEO, Equinox Lab, said, “For the Indian organic industry, the partnership between FSSAI and APEDA to launch a single organic logo is historic. This programme increases companies' access to markets while simultaneously boosting consumer confidence. Along the supply chain, it improves trust and transparency by harmonising standards and certification procedures. In the end, it serves to further India's dedication to sustainable growth and high-quality organic goods.”
