The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has released a list of Ayurveda Aahara covered under the Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahara) Regulations, 2022, under category A.

The list contains 22 food preparation categories called Aahara Kalpana, these include black gram fritters, wheat balls, curd based preparations, soups, gulkand, sweetened milk, coriander cool infusion, steamed rice cake, raw mango drink, buttermilk curry, parched rice tea, kichdi, ksheer (milk preparations), manda, lapsika, mantha, modaka, murabba, and panaka.

The order issued by the FSSAI in this regard stated that the list was prepared in consultation with the Ministry of Ayush to facilitate the Food Business Operators (FBOs) for manufacturing of Ayurveda Aahara.

The order added that in case of Ayurveda Aahara products falling under category A, but not mentioned in the list, the FBOs can request the Food Authority for inclusion by submitting relevant literature from authoritative text listed under Schedule A books.

Ayurveda Aahara regulation is a comprehensive collection of food preparations from Ayurvedic books that food businesses can refer to. It also includes products which have other botanical ingredients in accordance with the concept of Ayurvedic Aahara but does not include Ayurvedic drugs.

And, the FBOs can formulate Ayurveda Aahara in accordance with the categories and requirements specified in Schedule B of these regulations.
