FSSAI asks States to prepare surveillance plan on anti-microbial resistance

FSSAI unveils action plan on anti-microbial resistance during its 43rd Central Advisory Committee-CAC meeting in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
According to FSSAI, deliberations were held on creating awareness among farmers regarding the judicious use of antibiotics in livestock, aquaculture and poultry.
FSSAI in a statement has said that plans for surveillance on anti-microbial susceptibility in food matrix was discussed wherein States were urged to prepare surveillance plans and conduct regular meetings with State labs.
Apart from this, FSSAI officials discussed the importance of clean market places and establishment of health clubs in schools at the CAC meet and commissioners of Food Safety were also directed to develop 100 'Healthy and Hygienic Food Streets'.
Encouragement for creating awareness about fortified rice and ensuring compliance with FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulation 2018, was also discussed at the meet along with unveiling of Guidance Document for Training of Food Handlers in university, college and hostel canteens.
