The 19th essay of India International Seafood Show (IISS) will take place at Chennai Trade Centre in the Tamil Nadu capital between January 10 and 12, 2014. It will be co-organised by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) - under the auspices of the ministry of commerce and industry - and the Seafood Exporters’ Association of India (SEAI).

According to MPEDA, both the number of domestic participants and that of overseas participants have risen this year. As of now, 306 stalls and 1,000 delegates have registered for the show. Exhibitors from the United States, China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Argentina will participate in the event.

About half the participants at this year’s show are exporters of marine products, and a quarter are manufacturers and suppliers of equipment, machinery and refrigeration. The remainder would be covered by companies in the aquaculture sector and the packaging sector, manufacturers of ingredients and chemicals, government agencies, laboratories, logistics, etc.

One of the oldest and largest seafood events in Asia, IISS provides manufacturers and suppliers of processing machinery, packaging systems, certifications, processing ingredients, cold chain systems and logistics a platform to showcase their products. Another highlight of the event is the series of technical sessions on the latest technological developments in the industry, at which experts would make presentations.

It is pertinent to note that during the second and third quarters of 2013 (that is between April and September), the exports of marine products have shown a quantum leap of 39 per cent in rupee terms and 28 per cent in dollar terms compared to the corresponding period last year. If the trend continues, it will surpass the export target of $4.3 billion, setting a new record in the history of marine exports.
