Chilean Wine and Food Festival 2012 celebrated at Hotel Lalit in Mumbai

Hotel The Lalit, Andheri, Mumbai hosted the second edition of the Chilean Wine and Food Festival on November 21, 2012. The event, which was inaugurated by Nestor Riveros, trade commissioner, Embassy of Chile in India, Lalit Kanodia, honorary consul of Chile in Mumbai, and Sudhendu Pandit, general manager, Hotel The Lalit.

Riveros made a slideshow of the Chilean wine industry with slides. Riveros said, “Chilean wine is good for you. It has a lot of benefits and better prospects for consolidation in the Indian market. We are celebrating the second year of the Chilean Wine and Food Festival and have got a good response. We will continue the celebrations in the years to come.”

The event, attended by about 180 people, took place in the Majestic Hall of the hotel. The participating importers included key players in the wine industry, including Sonarys Cobrands, Sula Wineyards, Fine Wines and More and Aspri Wine Division.

The guests included sommeliers, general managers of hotels, restuarant owners, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the Mumbai Wine Club and the Indian Wine Society. They expressed kind words about the quality of the Chilean wines present in the Indian market.

Various varieties of Chilean seafood and meat, including salmon, pork and turkey (distributed in India by Resources International), and mussels (distributed by Chiloe Seafood Products) were launched in India for the first time, allowing the banquet team led by German chef Allan Limmer to prepare gourmet dishes, including salmon, grilled pork and turkey, smoked salmon, mussels in the shell, salmon ceviche and smoked turkey. Each of these was paired with the appropriate wine.



Sommeliers Magandeep Singh, Cecilia Oldne, Bhisham Mansukhani, Aneesh Aggarwal, Bhaseen and Karina were present at the event.

Pandit said, “We thank the trade commissioner of Embassy of Chile in India, Riveros, for selecting Hotel The Lalit for this event. Events such as the Chilean Wine and Food Festival generate significant support to the work of the Mission in India to achieve greater and favourable perception of the consumers, media, opinion leaders and importers about Chilean wine as Chile's flagship product, and this time of newly accessible foods like salmon, pork, turkey, Chilean mussels, thanks to the strategy and futuristic vision of some food exporters and the Chiloe Agrosuper Seafood Group.”

Some of the companies that showcased their latest offerings at the event included Sula Wineyards, one of the largest wine producers in India, Southern Cone Agent Concha y Toro Group (Southern Cone), Fine Wine & More (Caliterra), Aspri Wine Division (The Basque) and Sonarys (Montes).

On offer for a tasting were such varieties of wine as Carmenere, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon for red wines and Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay for whites, as well as blends of several strains.
