Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has not got any assurance so far in response to its demand to increase the budgetary allocation for this financial year. According to minister of state for food processing ministries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, the ‘talks’ are still on with the Union ministry of finance for the same. She gave this information on the sidelights of a function where she was present as the chief guest recently.

In this year’s Budget, the finance ministry had reduced the budgetary provisions for MoFPI, wherein the ministry got just 63% of the previous year’s Budget. However, Jyoti believed that the finance ministry would pay heed to the demands now.

When asked whether finance ministry had approved MoFPI's demands, the minister replied that the talks on the issue were on and a decision would be taken soon.

It is pertinent to mention here that MoFPI was unhappy over the reduced budgetary allocations in the current financial year of 2015-16. In a deposition before Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, the ministry expressed its dissatisfaction over lowered Budget of Rs 487 crore which was 63% of the previous year’s Budget and far below the demand of Rs 1,046 crore.
