NSDC, Assocom India ink MOU for training in baking, milling, food tech

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under a public-private partnership promoted by the finance ministry, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Assocom India Pvt Ltd (one of India’s premier food consulting and skill education companies) to create employment opportunities for the youth by imparting quality training in the baking, milling and food technology sectors.

Raj Kapoor, chief executive officer and managing director, Assocom India Pvt Ltd, and Dilip Chenoy, managing director and chief executive officer, NSDC, exchanged the signed copies of the MOU. Assocom India, through the Assocom Institute of Bakery Technology (AIBTM), plans to train over one lakh people over the next ten years.

It would provide bakery skills training across India; impart knowledge, training and skills in bakery, culinary art, flour milling, event management and allied subjects; create awareness on information technology and its applications in the hospitality industry; develop a course curriculum to focus on bakery operations, management, product development, entrepreneurship and implementation with inculcation of skills equipping the trainees to find placements and compete in competitive market, provide students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in hospitality as a profession, and provide state-of-the-art technology and management expertise to enable direct and significant upgradation of skills in the sector.

The collaboration seeks to create new opportunities. The training programme would focus on fresh students, unskilled workers, to-be entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs without formal training. It aims at up-skilling unskilled workers, to-be entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs without formal training, and imparting on-site training to working professionals in the targeted sector.

The duration of these programmes would be between two and six months (100 hours, 150 hours and 250 hours, respectively, for two- three- and six-month courses) for fresh skilling proposals and 80 hours for on-site training.

Assocom India Pvt Ltd, which has been working in the bakery and patisserie segment for over 14 years, has conducted workshops, participated in food summits and undertaken short-term skilling ventures for corporate and entrepreneurs. Across these initiatives, there have been about 6,435 participants over the last ten years.
