fiogf49gjkf0d Consumer affairs, food and public distribution minister Ram Vilas Paswan suggested that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) should set up a model depot in each state and formulate a citizens’ charter to improve its image among the people, besides publicising its achievements.
“There should be a model depot of FCI in every state, which would be shown as a benchmark for facilities for the storage of foodgrains,” he said, after an inspection at the FCI headquarters in New Delhi.
Paswan, who held discussions with senior officials of FCI, took stock of the preparations being made and reviewed the preparations for the procurement of kharif crops and total storage capacity in the country. He also asked the officials to work with determination and sincerity.
He advised that the general manager of each region should hold press conferences on a fortnightly basis, and explain to the media the role and responsibilities of FCI. The media may be briefed about the stock levels, procurement, the stock being issued by the corporation and the movement of foodgrains.
The minister also inspected FCI’s quality control laboratory and visited the staff canteen at the corporation’s headquarters.
