He added, “This summit has today witnessed the highest number of participants till date, which shows the success and growth of the nutraceutical and functional food industry till date.” He also thanked FSSAI and Chandramouli, who gave their timely assistance.
Brahmachari, in his speech, shared that India ranks third in generic drugs and in the future, the scenario would be different, as nutraceuticals and functional foods would be replacing the pharmaceutical industry.
He also announced that under DSIR, a 16-storeyed innovation complex would be coming up in Andheri (West), Mumbai. In a bid to boost India's nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries, the department was planning to implement several such projects in cities like Jammu and Lucknow.
Lal said, “Though the nutra industry is an upcoming industry, the technique used is old and already tried and used in Ayurveda. Now in India, which has abundant natural resources and where several varieties of food are available, we just have to combine it with science and technology.”
Patil said, "Having a nutra summit in Mumbai is a pleasure and an opportunity for entrepreneurs and scientists to come together, enhance their knowledge and learn the latest techniques, thus enabling the success of Maharashtra.”
He also said an open space is available in Lote Pareshwar in Chiplun, where all pharma and nutra companies are invited to invest. “This will also give this sector the status of an industry. Also various incentives will be made available to the investors. Through these initiatives, there will be a co-relation between the industry and the government, which will bring success to the industry as well as the state,” he added.
Talking about the latest rule by FSSAI for licensing and registration, Patil said he is proud to announce that with Maharashtra has completed the registration of 3,44,000 entrepreneurs, and the revenue collected amounted to Rs 63 crore, making the state the number one revenue-earner from the sector.
