India 4th in global tea market; 3.5 million kg Darjeeling tea exported

fiogf49gjkf0d India is curently fourth in the world tea market. The estimated amount and value of Darjeeling tea exported between April 2012 and January 2013 were 3.5 million kg and Rs 210 crore respectively.
Although the government has no information about possible attempts by entities from overseas to register the Darjeeling word and logo marks as their own, an agency named Thomson and Reuters has been appointed to monitor and alert the Tea Board regarding any attempt by them to do so.
This information was given by D Purandeswari, minister of state for commerce and industry, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
