IICPT signs MoU with US university for research in crop, food processing Friday, February 13, 2009 08:00 IST In order to develop new technology and research in the field of crop processing and food processing, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), USA, was signed here on Wednesday in the presence of Ashok Sinha, Secretary, Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
The MoU signed by Dr K Alagusundaram, Director of IICPT, and Dr Harvey Perlman, Chancellor of UNL, is intended to facilitate a collaborative programme of research, training, curriculum, institutional development, information dissemination, and exchange of faculty, students and staff. The linkage formed through this MoU between the two institutions will further each partner institution's objectives as well as strengthen the relationship between the partners, it is learnt. The IICPT located in Thanjavur, is a pioneer Research and Development Institute under the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries. According to UNL sources, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has, since 1869, been involved in the economic well-being of all Nebraskans. In the beginning, the UNL's economic development efforts centred around the agriculture industry, but in third century, agriculture is joined by nanotechnology, computer science, genetics, and many other areas of inquiry which have practical application in the lives and careers of all Nebraskans. The Agricultural Research Division is the major research agency of the University of Nebraska's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and is Nebraska's Agricultural Experiment Station. ARD scientists improve the quality of life for Nebraskans across the state. They make important contributions to the state's agriculture, food industries, environment, the well-being of families, and community development, UNL sources added. |
