Focus on honing skills, showcasing talents at ITM’s bakery competition

fiogf49gjkf0d ITM (Institute of Hotel Management Nerul, Navi Mumbai), recently organised at its premises, Intra-Collegiate Bakery Competition 2015, a bakery competition focussing on the twin objectives of honing bakery skills and showcasing the talents of students.
Chef Sandeep Talokar, HoD, bakery department, and his team comprising chef Sharvari Gokhale and chef Nayana Joshi, were at the forefront in organising the display-cum-competition, with “Indo-American Fusion Dessert” as its theme.
Payal Thakkar and Veda Datar won the first prize, Harshita Sharma and Manish Pillai were the first runners up, and Riana Baretto and Utkarsh Angane were declared second runners up at the competition.
Talokar shares details, “Such competitions and events have always been a part of this department. It gives our students an opportunity to be innovative and creative and be ready for the hospitality industry.”
The judges for the event included chef Sayyed Mohammad Illyas, owner of Café Bake & Brew, Navi Mumbai; chef Reetu Uday Kugaji, programme head, B A International Culinary Arts; and chef Vijay Sawant, head of department, food production. The competition was supported by Dr Maureen Lobo, dean of academics; Bimal Ekka, principal; and Ketan Chande, vice-principal.
