fiogf49gjkf0d fiogf49gjkf0d The ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI) has been implementing the Mega Food Park Scheme (MFPS) since 11th Five Year Plan. The agenda is to create modern infrastructure facilities for food processing along the value chain from farm to market, with a cluster-based approach-based on a hub-and-spoke model. This information has been given by minister of state for food processing industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, in a written reply in Lok Sabha recently.
The scheme includes creation of infrastructure for primary processing and storage near the farm at Primary Processing Centres (PPCs) and Collection Centres (CCs) and common facilities and enabling infrastructure at Central Processing Centre (CPC). The scheme also aims to provide a mechanism to bring together farmers, processors and retailers and link agriculture production to the market so as to ensure maximisation of value addition, minimisation of wastages and improving farmers’ income.
The scheme of Integrated Cold Chain, Value Addition and Preservation Infrastructure also promotes backward linkages with farmers through Minimal Processing Centres.
In order to create awareness and sensitise entrepreneurs for setting up new food processing units in diversified food processing sectors, the ministry is implementing a Scheme for Promotional Activities, under which financial assistance is provided for organising seminars/ workshops/ fair/ exhibitions in various parts of the country. The ministry also participates in all-India level fairs/ exhibitions for dissemination of information regarding food processing industries, familiarising the entrepreneurs with modern techniques of production and preservation.
