Maharashtra convenes emergency meet to assess stock of pulses

The Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Department has convened an emergency meeting to assess the situation with respect to the stock of pulses in the state. The Secretary of the department has directed the traders to mandatorily update about their stocks.
The traders were directed that they need to upload the stock information online with the government on every Friday till further orders. The traders were also warned of actions, if they fail to adhere to the Government directions.
The meeting was held in response to a direction of the Union Government about possible hoarding of pulses by some traders in Maharashtra. The meeting was attended by pulses traders from across Maharashtra and others including importers, miller stockist, multi-chain stores and wholesale sellers. Besides, pulses trade associations including Dal Mill Association from Jalgaon, Latur, Mumbai, Akola and Nagpur also participated.
Meanwhile, Shankar Thakkar, state general secretary, CAIT, informed that the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Maharashtra, clarified that the traders having FSSAI licence do not require to obtain another licence from the Civil Supplies department and they will no longer be required to submit returns to the department, as well.
