As a part of its social responsibility, the Gulmohar Greens Golf and Country Club has donated thousands of kits with vegetables and other grocery items among the needy since the 21-day nationwide lockdown began on March 25.
The company distributed more than 2,100 bags with 1.5-2 kg vegetables among those who have been hit the hardest by the lockdown.
Of these 1,700 bags were distributed with the help of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Over 250 bags were distributed near the Corporate Road in Satellite, and 200 more among slum dwellers on Iscon-Ambli road.
“We also prepared 250 kits containing flour, rice, oil, pulses, salt, spices, jaggery, and other food items on Monday. Each kit weighed around 15 kg, and would be enough to last a family for 12-15 days,” said Alpesh Parikh of Gulmohar Greens.
A day earlier, 2,100 kg bags, each containing around 1.5-2 kg vegetables were distributed among the needy.
“We have distributed about 10,200 kg vegetables and other food items in the last six days. We are getting tremendous support from our members and friends, and are confident that more people will come forward to contribute to this humanitarian cause in this difficult time,”
“We are confident we can continue the supply for another 15 - 20 days”, he added.
Ahmedabad’s leading golf course also appealed to people to stay indoors and comply strictly with the lockdown orders.
“Even if you have to step outside for any important and unavoidable work, we appeal you to take precautions such as wearing a mask, avoiding physical contact with other others, and to follow social distancing,” Parikh added.
