The Forum of Indian Food Importers (FIFI) has welcomed the recent announcement by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the reduction of GST rates for a wide range of food and beverage products. The move, FIFI said, will ease financial pressures, lower input costs, and bring direct benefits to consumers across the country.
Under the revised structure, products such as dairy, tree nuts, dried fruits, sugar, pasta, jams, sauces, chocolates, coffee, tea extracts, soups, and many others will now attract a 5% GST rate. FIFI believes this reform is a landmark step that will encourage trade and investment, strengthen business viability, and enhance India’s position in the global food and agri-trade sector.
Amit Lohani, founder director, FIFI, said, “This is truly festive joy for both industry and consumers. Lower GST rates translate to more accessible prices, stronger business growth, and a more dynamic marketplace. We are delighted to celebrate this reform with our members and partners.”
FIFI extended its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their intervention in making this reform possible.
Manoj Dugar, director of Dugar Overseas, said, “As both importers and exporters, we see this as a progressive step that helps businesses function in a more integrated manner. On behalf of the industry and as a business, I sincerely thank the government for this significant announcement.”
