Further expanding the skyline of digital food ordering in India, Zomato will launch its online ordering (OLO) and food delivery services in 30 more cities over the week, and will have a presence in 100 cities in the country shortly.

With this addition, the company’s food delivery services are currently present across 93 cities across India and lists over 75,000 restaurants on the platform. It has gone up from 54,000 restaurants in the last two months.

The number of delivery partners has surged from 5,400 in January 2018 to 1,50,000 now. Zomato has also hired over 5,000 delivery partners in these new cities, further strengthening its 1.5 lakh partners strong last-mile delivery fleet. The new cities will include Puducherry, Jamshedpur, Ambala, Meerut, Haridwar, Bhavnagar, Ujjain and Puri, among others.

The current share of the food delivery business in the overall revenue of the company is about 65 per cent. It was about 35 per cent in January 2018.

With its recent expansion to Jakarta and Manila, Zomato Gold, the company’s premium subscription programme, has a presence in five countries and 26 cities. In India, it boasts of a subscription base of 6,00,000 customers and over 4,000 restaurant partners.

Commenting on the new developments, Deepinder Goyal, founder and chief executive officer, Zomato, said, “We have experienced an overwhelming reaction to our expansion across all of our businesses - Gold, Food Delivery and Supply.”

“The number of Gold memberships sold in Manila and Jakarta within a week is beating early numbers of Delhi and Mumbai,” he added.

Goyal said, “HyperPure has had great reception, and we are opening up our next centre in the National Capital Region (NCR) in a couple of weeks.”

“The Food@Work business has also been expanding into new markets. And of course, the Food Delivery business is ramping up really well with the growth in main markets, as well as the reception in Tier-II and III cities,” he added.

Commenting on the recent launches for the online ordering and food delivery business, Mohit Gupta, chief executive officer, food delivery, Zomato, said, “We have been surprised by the demand in Tier-II and III cities, and are, therefore, gung-ho about serving every last customer, in the smallest of towns in India,” Goyal said.

“We will be the first to hit the 100-city mark and will continue to invest heavily to lead geographical penetration, in the food delivery market in India. We have seen the market share grow in our main markets through the festive season and have plans for growth in December as well,” he added.

Recognised as the longest running food-technology platforms in India, Zomato is committed to providing quality food and service to its users and guide them to make the right food choices.

“Growth of supply (with over 75,000 restaurant partners), aggressive geographic expansion (first to hit 100 cities in India), and strong last-mile capabilities (the largest last-mile delivery fleet with over 1.5 lakh riders) are key drivers for the overall growth of the business,” Gupta said.

“We are definitely market leaders across all three of these vectors in the food delivery business, and will continue bolstering our services to deliver, not just great meals, but great experiences as well,” he added.

With personalised customer service pre and post the order completion, it will also offer its consumers the convenience of hassle-free delivery through its own delivery fleet in these cities.
