BeatO (short for Beating the ring O of diabetes), India’s first and only full-stack digital solution for managing diabetes, has launched a range of diabetic-friendly healthy products. It includes snacks, staples, breakfast items, juices, vinegar and sugar alternatives.

The options in the snack category include quinoa khakhra (a first of its kind in India), quinoa and bajra puffs and roasted makhana, in addition to flax and sunflower seeds. The staples include red and brown rice.

BeatO’s breakfast range comprises muesli variants, masala poha and oats. Other products includes juices and vinegar in such flavours as karela, wheatgrass, amla, aloe vera and jamun. Apple cider vinegar, considered beneficial for diabetics, is also available.

These are aimed at addressing the dietary aspect of managing diabetes and supporting people in making the right choices.

They are not only suitable to everyone, but are also pocket-friendly, with the prices ranging between Rs 250 and Rs 750.

India contributes to about 49 per cent of the world’s diabetes burden. Rampant obesity, due to unhealthy eating practices and lack of exercise, is one of the major reasons for the onset of this condition.

Diabetes requires regular monitoring of blood glucose and proactive sugar control and a lifestyle switch to diabetes-friendly products. BeatO’s products are, thus, the right mix of health and taste and curb unhealthy eating, and can, therefore, help prevent obesity and diabetes.

Speaking about this, Gautam Chopra, co-founder and chief executive officer, BeatO, said, “Medication, regular sugar monitoring and lifestyle changes in diet and exercise are the three pillars of diabetes management.”

“An uncontrolled and unhealthy diet can lead to a spike in sugar levels. It is, therefore, imperative for people living with diabetes to plan what they eat, including snacks,” he added.

“Choosing a healthy snack can often be painstaking, especially for those who wish to make efforts towards following a well-planned diabetic diet,” Chopra said.

“Not all products are well-labelled with respect to stating nutrition and benefits in the Indian market, particularly those sold as snacks,” he added.

“Nor is it easy for people with diabetes to easily find specific snacks and food products that are healthy, delicious and safe for them to eat without causing fluctuations in their sugar levels,” Chopra said.

“BeatO’s snacks and other staples have been introduced to fit this requirement. There is no longer a need for people to compromise on their taste buds due to this condition,” he added.

BeatO’s focus is entirely on diabetes management, which makes it one-of-a-kind solutions provider in the market.

Along with their small and sleek, smartphone-connected glucometer that enables anytime, anywhere monitoring of blood sugar levels, these eatables are meant to help people in the self-management of their condition.

BeatO will continue to add more relevant options that will fit the existing consumption pattern of diabetics.

To complement its products and services, it has partnered with ventures such as Netmeds and Cigna to fulfill medicine requirements and provide health insurance to its customers, respectively.

The company has catered to customers in 1,500 cities, who are not limited to the metros but live as far as Baramullah in Kashmir.

What is also unique about them is that most of the team members are living with diabetes (both Type-I and II), which helps them in designing products and processes to benefit the customers.

BeatO recently raised $1.3 million in funding led by Blume Venture Capital (VC) and co-led by Leo Capital.

The company intends to make self-care for those living with diabetes a smooth ride. It has ventured out to take diabetes care and management to the next level, so that individuals with this condition are empowered to make intelligent choices and manage their health effectively and efficiently with a positive outcome.
