FSSAI proposes to amend regulations pertaining to edible oil claims
Saturday, 13 April, 2019, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Ashwani Maindola, New Delhi
FSSAI has proposed to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, pertaining to claims and advertisements, by including a suggestive positive list of claims for edible oils based on their intrinsic characteristics.

The country’s apex food regulator said that the purpose of such amendment was essentially to address the issue of claims appearing on packages of oils without any logic or scientific rationale, which largely led to consumer misinformation.

These regulations are called the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) First Amendment Regulations, 2019.

The amendment related to Clause (2a), referring to claims, including nutrient function claims for edible vegetable oils, be made as provided in Schedule – VI.
