Swain appointed new director of revenue at The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat

Anil Swain has been appointed the new director of revenue at The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat, and will be in charge of negotiations, pricing and budgeting exercise on the basis of market and demand analysis for the property.

His key responsibility areas include management of hotel revenue and preparation of budget and revenue forecasting. Additionally, he will also supervise the strategic analysis, channel and distribution management, global distribution strategy (GDS) strategy and marketing and pricing and e-commerce management.

Swain obtained a diploma in hotel management from Coromandal Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Vishakhapatnam, and followed it up with a certificate course on revenue management from American Hotel and Lodging Association via distance learning.

A sales and revenue management professional, he has over 12 years of experience in sales management with luxury hotels.

Swain formally began his career with The Grand, New Delhi (erstwhile The Grand Hyatt) as guest service officer in June 2005. He oversaw the food and beverage operation and sales. During his stint, he also operated as a supervisory team member and did daily operations, tracking and GDS.

In March 2008, he joined Vivanta by Taj - MG Road, Bangalore, as guest service supervisor, reservations. His role was to ensure smooth functioning of the department, track daily business picked up, coordination within departments for smooth functioning and guest satisfaction and coordination of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE)/group movement.

In August 2009, Swain climbed up the ladder as reservations executive. He assisted the revenue manager in the management of room inventory on all channels and handled the property management system, ensuring elevated guest satisfaction through personalised service.

In August 2011, he took up the role of assistant manager, revenue, Bangalore cluster, where he oversaw the other Taj properties, namely The Gateway Hotel Residency Road and Taj Khuteeram alongside Vivanta by Taj- MG Road.

Swain played a dynamic role with increased responsibilities which comprised of developing overall pricing strategy to include all market segments and distribution channels, conducting revenue meeting and yield meeting to focus on achieving incremental revenue.

He also led the Regional Reservations Office from April to September 2012, till the reservation manager came on board and was responsible for daily operations of the department.

After manifesting his vigorous enthusiasm in his previous stint, Swain was appointed the revenue manager by Swissotel Kolkata in July 2013. He led the department of the hotel’s management team to achieve the targeted gross operating profit (GOP), analysing business opportunities, market condition and trends with strategic management.

In September 2015, he joined Park Hyatt Chennai as revenue manager. He headed the department, and was responsible for complete revenue management of the property.

Swain stepped up, and in March 2017, he joined Mayfair Resorts as assistant general manager, revenue management and distribution, with 10 properties under his leadership. He had the revenue management of the entire Mayfair Group, comprising approximately 500 rooms, under his supervision.

Apart from being a keen traveller, he is fond of long drives and loves to spend his free time with his dog.

Rajiv Vyas was appointed director of sales at The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat. In his current role, he will be looking after company sales functions, alongside the development and implementation of sales strategy.

As director of sales, he will also manage sales forecasts as well as pricing strategies, thereby implementing effective techniques to increase the occupancy of the hotel.

Being a part of the hotel industry for over 14 years, Vyas has proved his exemplary performance in sales, marketing and business development by devising strategies that have given high-yielding results.

After completing his graduation from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, he went onto pursue his MBA from Preston University, London. He further obtained a diploma in information technology from South Bank College, London the following year.

Vyas started his career in the year 2003 with Jindal Saw Pipe Limited, Mumbai, as a marketing executive. His responsibilities encompassed conceptualising and formulating annual marketing plan in conjunction with sales department, managing the marketing department budget and ensuring the delivery of all marketing activity within it.

He forayed into the hotel industry in 2006, when he served as the sales and marketing manager of Radisson Edwardian Company, Heathrow, United Kingdom. He supervised the planning of brand audits of 13 hotels to ensure consistency in terms of brand representation. He oversaw the analysis of the sales figures to forecast future sales volumes to maximise profits.

Vyas’ first stint in India in the hotel industry was with ELLAA Hotels, Hyderabad, as associate director, sales and marketing from 2010 to 2011. He was responsible for maximising hotel revenue among various market segments. He ensured a warm, professional and regular relationship with guests with prompt and high standard of service.

In the year 2011, he moved to Novotel and Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Hyderabad, in the capacity of associate director, sales-associations and exhibitions, where he proved his mettle by promoting Hyderabad as the most compelling destination in India and accelerating sustainable economic growth and development by increasing visitor and convention business.

Vyas also effectively used multi-location strategy to work with the team in synergy for potential businesses and proactively use online tools to generate leads and follow up for site inspections and closures.

In 2013, he joined Sheraton and The Westin Hotel, Hyderabad, as complex director of sales. His primary focus was brand building in conjunction with operational requirements; utilising market feedback and personal network to develop marketing intelligence for positioning the hotel.

Between 2015 and 2018, Vyas was with Courtyard by Marriott, Raipur, as director of sales. His key roles included providing leadership and coordination to the company sales and marketing functions, alongside maintaining focus on the company’s strategic goals and developing a solid pre-opening sales and marketing plan.

Apart from measuring figuring and plans, he, in his free time loves to spend time with his wife and two kids, indulges in a game or two of snooker and relaxes with a swim.
