Urban Millets, a leading Bengaluru-based manufacturer of millet products, has launched its new brand, Trumillets, which includes a wide range of healthy ready-to-cook products and healthy snacks, and millet Xpress, all of which offer a variety of healthy choices for all Indian consumers. The company has invested Rs 1 crore in the processing of its offerings, and currently has 50 employees, of which 90 per cent are women employees.

The objective of the company is to provide the much-needed value addition to millets and ensure that the farmers get the best prices for their produce, and at the same time, provide more employment to women. It was set up in December 2018, and is managed by women entrepreneurs.

The new range of products launched under the brand Trumillets offers millet solutions through various millet premixes, ranging from Dosa and Idli mix, Upma, Pongal, Kesaribath, Kheer, Murukku, Chiwda, smoothies and porridges, which can be prepared and served within three to eight minutes.

Each of these products are free from added preservatives and are 100 per cent natural. Utmost care has been taken to produce them in its state-of-the-art facility centre located in Hegganahalli, Bengaluru.

India accounts for highest millets production in terms of volume across the globe. In fact, the Government of India also recently highlighted the high nutritional value in millets, and how it can withstand adverse agro-climate conditions. This will also help farmers in raising their income and enhance nutrition levels.

In Karnataka alone, millets have been considered a popular food due to their anti-diabetic properties that help in reducing post-prandial blood glucose levels.

Inaugurating the facility, Karnataka’s former agriculture minister and Member of Legislative Assembly Krishna Byregowda said, “Millets are less known in India. But due to their rich mineral properties such as iron, magnesium, potassium and copper, they are increasingly becoming a fad. I would also like to invite people to collaborate with more farmers and engage even more consumers with a sole objective to integrate millets as a commonly-consumed crop like rice.”

Mamatha N L, director, Urban Millets, said, “The aim is to bring quality and healthy food to each and every household in our country. We believe that the consumer’s need for healthy options in India is growing exponentially, and our latest variants are uniquely placed to satisfy this need. We are confident that the new products will become popular choices with all our customers.”

The company is aggressively focussing its operational and marketing strategies to capture new markets across India, and ensure more and more people can now have nutritious and healthy food options. Urban Millets also continues its effort to serve the consumers, farmers and the environment, thereby creating a sustainable ecosystem.
