Badal launches 15-day cleanliness campaign Swachhta Pakhwada & booklet

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, minister for food processing industries, Government of India, recently launched the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign, a 15-day observance of cleanliness by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), which will conclude on October 31, 2018. She also launched a booklet, which was titled Waste to Wealth Technology and prepared by the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

Inaugurating the booklet, the minister said MoFPI held cleanliness with utmost importance. She called on the industry chambers present on the occasion to participate in the campaign and promote the idea of Swachhta becoming a way of life.

Badal requested the industry leaders present at the event to apprise the units of the importance of Swachhta. During the campaign, nodal officers of the ministry will visit mega food parks, abattoirs, cold chains and other assisted projects to review cleanliness measures at the sites.

Officials of the ministry launched a cleanliness drive in and around the office premises recently. Industry bodies like the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI), PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), the All India Dood Processors’ Association (AIFPA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise the Swachhta Awareness Programme in selected municipal schools across Delhi.

Awareness events and training camps for street vendors on food safety will also be organised across various locations in the city.

IIFPT will hold an essay competition on Swachhta Mission at the institute, the winner of which will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000. The National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) will organise an intensive cleanliness drive in its campus and its adopted villages.

Rakesh Sarwal, additional secretary and other senior officers of the ministry; Chindi Vasudevappa, vice-chancellor, NIFTEM, and C Anandharamakrishnan, director, IIFPT, along with senior officials representing various industry chambers were present during the occasion.
