Suresh Prabhu, India’s commerce and industry minister, and Enggartiasto Lukita, the Republic of Indonesia’s minister of trade, discussed the issues of market access and regulatory barriers concerning such sectors as dairy products and bovine meat at the second Biennial Trade Ministers’ Forum (BTMF) meeting, which took place in New Delhi.

The ministers were the leaders of their countries’ delegations at the meeting, which was preceded by a senior officials’ meeting, at which the groundwork for the BTMF meeting was done. The Indonesian side agreed that it would undertake inspection visits to register facilities for dairy products, fresh food of plant origin and meat processing.

They agreed to hold a meeting of regulators to resolve the issues concerning the pharmaceutical and health sectors, and convene meetings of the Working Groups on Trade and Investment and Trade Facilitation and Remedies to address the issues impeding trade, identify means to facilitate trade and investment and look into facilitation of services and areas of mutual interest between the two nations.

Prabhu and Lukita also agreed to deepen economic cooperation and bilateral trade by having greater cooperation of the stakeholders, including the governments, businesses, entrepreneurs, etc. The former urged the latter to utilise the opportunities presented by the Make in India, Invest India and Start-up India initiatives of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, led by prime minister Narendra Modi.
