Academy of Pastry Arts has won the India Pastry Cup 2019 competition, held in Mumbai. Two of its chefs, Dean Rodriguez and Shailesh Bhutada, will represent India at the Asia Pastry Cup (APC), which will be held during the Food and Hotel Asia 2020 show in Singapore in April 2020.

At the India Pastry Cup, a day-long competition, the competitors were judged on their professional skills and ability to provide a practical demonstration of trends and progress in pastry arts.

Teams comprising two professional chefs from the same company represented their organisation.

The Academy of Pastry Arts faced tough competition by the Symbiosis School of Culinary Arts chef Pankaj Deshpande and Shamal Ghansham More, and Team Leela, represented by chefs Rishabh Anand and Stephenson Simpson.

Participants were judged by an eminent and talented panel of judges, which included chef Jean Francois Arnaud, MOF (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France), Asia president of the jury APC; Kainaz Messman, founder and creative director, Theobroma, and Avijit Ghosh, corporate pastry chef, Hotel Leela Ventures.

Speaking on the performance of his team, Chef Niklesh Sharma, founder, Academy of Pastry Arts, said, “Winning the competition solidates the fact that we are moving in the right direction, and it thus speaks volumes about the culture and level of cooking going around at the Academy of Pastry Arts. The next big challenge in front of us will be the Asia Pastry Cup, but the team is eager and prepared enough to repeat the same performance there as well.”

Academy of Pastry Arts has pan-Asia presence across Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The academy offers ingenious techniques, specifically designed to teach the art, science and techniques of creating good food and methods needed to excel in the food industry.

Its visiting faculty consists of the largest number of master chefs, such as MOF, world champions, master chocolatiers and master bakers. Over 75 classes, led by visiting faculty, were conducted across Academy of Pastry Arts centres in 2019.
