Kamats Restaurants, the Mumbai-based chain of affordable pure vegetarian restaurants in the family dining segment and food mall outlets, has launched Vidli Vada by Kamats Kiosk. By 2019, the chain, which operates two brands (Vithal Kamats Original Family Restaurants and Kamats Original Family Restaurants), will have a total of 150 outlets, with key expansions planned in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

Kamats Restaurants plans to expand its presence to 30 more outlets this year. The Kamat Group presently operates a chain of 60 restaurants in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) format at various locations on national highways, state highways and cities.

Vikram Kamat, chief mentor, Kamat Restaurants, said, “Kamats, synonymous with healthy and hygienic vegetarian food, has emerged as a symbol of quality, originality and trust. A key factor for our success has been a world-class menu with competitive pricing that caters to a wide market.”

“We are extremely thrilled to expand our presence across Maharashtra, while also penetrating newer territories nationally. Kamats is the largest pure vegetarian chain of restaurants in India, and is soon looking at expanding aggressively in international markets as well,” he added.

The company has mapped out areas of expansion that will be a mix of company-owned and franchised restaurants.

In the first half of 2018, Kamats will open outlets in Ahmednagar, Khopoli, Satara, Padga, Khandala, Dindoli, Surat, Waghunde, Nipani, Kolhapur, Nanded, Indapur, Vani-Nashik and Nashik-Sinner. The flagship restaurant will also roll out its second Mumbai outlet in Chakala, Andheri, next month.

Apart from the planned expansion, the company is also working on new trends and concepts in the market.

Vidli Vada by Kamats Kiosk is the latest format launched by the company, specifically designed for space constraints to serve a variety of idlis and vadas. It will penetrate its reach across leading metros, Tier-I and Tier-II cities, offering super-hygienic kiosk at affordable prices, thereby presenting huge opportunities in the near future.

Chandrakant Shetty, chief executive officer, Kamat Restaurants, said, “Having captured a huge market space in the family dining category, we have now launched Vidli Vada by Kamat’s Kiosk.”

“The latest concept will introduce wholesome and delicious idlis, vadas and dosas that will delight our patrons,” he added.

“Vidli Vada is a completely flameless fire-free cooking concept developed by our team of experts. We presently have 40 outlets in Mumbai, with the flagship outlet in Andheri East,” Shetty said.

“With 30 popular vegetarian dishes in a space of just 60sq ft, Vidli Vada aims to make South Indian food available in each and every corner of high footfall zones nationally,” he added.

The key success of Kamats Restaurants is a wide variety of quality food, fresh ingredients, distinctive flavours that are served in hygienic surroundings.

Since 2013, Kamats has started expanding its restaurant chain and concentrated on standardising its products and services through a centralised purchasing and training system.

The company has captured a dominant share in the organised vegetarian family restaurant space, growing impressively by the years.
