The Indonesian Food Festival, which featured the best of the Asian nation’s cuisine, concluded at Andheri’s The Club recently. The three-day event was organised by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, in cooperation with The Club.

The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Ade Sukendar, consul general of the Republic of Indonesia, Mumbai, and Dinesh Khanna, chairman, The Club, and showcased Indonesia’s artistic, cultural, culinary and tourism potential to the attendees.

The invitees savoured the authentic taste of the country’s cuisine, prepared by Indonesian chef Bera Martomo. The Indonesian Food Festival provided the food lovers of Mumbai a one-of-its-kind experience, with a good spread of Indonesian delicacies cooked under Martomo’s supervision.

The dishes on offer included Nasi Kuning, Ikan Rica-Rica, Soto Ayam Madura, Soup Jagung Manis and Jamur, Satey Ayam Madura, Rabeg Kambing, Sayur Lodeh, Bakwan Sayur and Mie Goreng, and were followed by other cuisines.

“We use coconut milk instead of oil while cooking, and many varieties of spices, which gives Indonesian food its authentic taste,” Sukander said, adding that many spices, including cinnamon and turmeric, were imported to India from Indonesia.

“Indonesia is one of the most attractive destinations to Indian tourists, with its rich culture, wonderful nature, friendly people and much more, that will make for a once-in-a-life time experience. Among the key attractions are spas, ecotourism, marine tourism and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), and these draw visitors,” Sukander said.

The event witnessed a large gathering of over 200 people, including members of the diplomatic corps, trade and business associations, business communities, the travel and tourism industry, media personnel and prominent Indian nationals, along with Indonesian nationals residing under the jurisdiction of the mission.
