The Ludhiana-based Bonn Group, a leading bread and biscuit maker, has now stormed into the fast food restaurant business with the launch of its La Americana brand of burger outlet chain.

It has just opened burger outlets in Delhi, and plans to expand the chain across many states in the next 12-18 months.

The market for the fast food business in India is currently pegged at around Rs 8,000 crore and growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30 per cent.

“The outlets we have started in Delhi are getting good response from the people as the taste of the burgers is very different,” said Amrinder Singh, director, Bonn Group of Industries.

“We will replicate the success of these outlets in others. We are confident people will love our American-style burgers in other cities too. The thrust is one healthy eating and we have only fresh buns being served in the outlets,” he added.

The outlets will also offer different types of vegetarian and non-vegetarian wraps, mojitos, iced teas, shakes and fries.

“The market for fast food is growing at a very fast in India and since we are already recognised for the best of the breads and buns, we can use our long legacy in a related new business, where we use our own buns for fresh burgers,” Singh said.

“The response we have got from our outlets in Delhi proves our entry into this business is right and going to be very exciting,” he added.

“What we are also doing with La Americana chain is that we are offering a whole range of eatables and beverages, which makes us stand out from other burger chains,” stated Singh.

The company already has stronghold in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir for its other products like breads, biscuits and cakes, and will expand its fast food business in these states before entering new geographies.

The company has also launched the La Americana range of gourmet cookies. These are premium cookies that are being sold in most north Indian cities, and the new range has seen overwhelming response from the customers.

The brand Bonn has become synonymous with bread and bakery in many cities in North India, where the company enjoys a dominant market share.

It is known for its range of food products, including breads, biscuits, cakes, rusks and cookies that are sold in India and exported to over 50 countries in over three continents.

It bagged the National Award for Quality Products from the government of India, has certifications like hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) by DNV from the Netherlands and ISO 9001:2000.

It is also approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The company has 11 manufacturing plants spread all over north India. It also owns a fleet of over 400 trucks and a factory for packaging material.
