Gwartney joins Diamond V as director of protein food safety research

Bucky Gwartney has joined Diamond V as director, protein food safety research. “I am happy to announce Gwartney has joined Diamond V,” said Don McIntyre, director, global research and technical service, Diamond V.
“In his new role, he will be responsible for global meat quality and food safety research across all food animal species and protein groups,” he added.
Gwartney received his BS in agriculture, food industry from Oklahoma State University before earning his MS and PhD from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Prior to joining Diamond V, he worked for the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) agricultural marketing service.
Gwartney was a member of the agency’s standardisation division in Washington, D C where he helped to develop meat and livestock standards for the red meat industry. While in Washington, he also served as deputy director and science advisor for U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) – agricultural affairs.
Gwartney also worked as executive director for research and knowledge management for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) in Denver, Colorado.
“Gwartney is an excellent addition to our research team,” said McIntyre, adding, “His over 25 years of technical and business experience will help us expand Diamond V expertise into meat and muscle quality by helping to define Diamond V technology attributes, enhancing our proposition to stakeholders across the supply chain.”
