The forum also organised Trade Test, a culinary competition, a part of the ceremony - at RIG Institute of Hospitality and Management, Greater Noida. Over 100 aspiring chefs from starred hotels and standalone restaurants competed against each other in eight categories at this three-day culinary competition.

The first day of the competition saw the participation of 20 chefs who competed in three categories, i.e., Master Chef of the Year, Master Chef North Indian Cuisine (one specific region) and Master Chef Indian Sweets.

The second day witnessed the participation of over 50 chefs who competed in two categories, i.e. Master Chef International Cuisine and Student Chef of the Year.

The third day saw the participation of 30 chefs competing in three categories - Master Chef Oriental Cuisine, Master Chef South/East/West Cuisine, and Master Chef Kebabs. Contestants showcased a series of culinary skills, celebrating the preparation and presentation of the food accoutrements in attractive and pleasing forms.

The fourth and final day of the battle of chefs will witness the participation of about 16 chefs competing in two categories, i.e. Master Chef International Confectionery and Master Chef Baker at Academy of Pastry Arts, Gurugram, on October 19, 2019.

Noted Malaysian chef Peter Chan will be the chairperson of the jury in this year’s competitions, along with renowned national and international chefs, while chef Sireesh Saxena will be the organising secretary.

The winners of the competition will be felicitated by Amitabh Kant, chief executive officer, NITI Aayog, at the awards ceremony.

Chef Davinder Kumar, president, ICF, said, “We have been organising the Annual Chef Awards for the last 15 years as a part of the celebrations of International Chef’s Day, as our contribution to accrediting a chef as an artist.”

“The objective of the Chef Awards is to offer fellow chefs a professional platform to showcase, exhibit, hone their culinary skills and raise the overall Indian culinary art at par with international standards. We assure that it will be a valuable experience for all the chefs and will maximise their potential and growth in the sector,” he added.

Chef Vivek Saggar, general secretary, ICF, said, “The aim of the Chef Awards to recognize, honour and promote culinary excellence among the fraternity of chefs and encourage youngsters to join the industry.”

“The platform was not merely a competition as chefs will be able to keep themselves updated with modern techniques and mechanisms that are used in kitchens across the world,” he added.

“This year ICF has tied up with Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council as the skill partner to promote and contribute to the Government’s Skill India Mission by providing the right platform,” Ssggar said.
