In a scenario wherein Kerala’s marine-based fish production has reached a stagnant stage, CIFRI is offering innovative aquaculture technologies for income generation from Kerala inland waters. This was stated by Rani Palaniswamy, officer-in-charge, ICAR-CIFRI Kochi.

The present production of Kerala is a meagre of 40,000 tonne against the 60 lakh tonne from India, while a huge potential for tapping the unexploited inland water resources.

This was highlighted by V V Sugunan, former director, ICAR-CIFRI and ADG (inland fisheries), while inaugurating the NFDB-sponsored training programme on livelihood improvement at CIFRI Kochi Centre at the CMFRI campus recently.

The three-day training programme was organised for technology seekers in inland waters by B K Das, director, CIFRI, with the support of scientists and staff of the Kochi centre.
