Diploma students of MSIHMCT celebrate World Tourism Day with seminar

The diploma travel and tourism students of Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (MSIHMCT), Pune, celebrated World Tourism Day in the institute’s auditorium recently by organising a one-day seminar, the theme of which was Tourism and Jobs: A better future for all.

Aditi Bhende, managing director, Aarohan Tours and Travels Pvt Ltd, Pune, was the chief guest at the event, which commenced with the lighting of the lamp by her; Pandurang Taware, managing director, Agri Tourism Development Corporation, Pune; Anthony D’Souza, ex-principal, Bharti Vidyapeeth Hotel Management Institute, Pune; Sheetal Kamble-Shinde, director, Happy Tours, Pune, and Anita Moodliar, principal, MSIHMCT, Pune.

Moodliar introduced the students to the theme of World Tourism Day, while Bhende gave an insight on how the travel industry functioned a few decades ago, besides stressing the importance of human touch in the tourism industry, and focussing on the need to develop soft skills for success in the travel business. Bhende also spoke on developing human capital skills to adapt to a changing environment.

Taware guided the students on alternative employment opportunities for farmers, while D’Souza, briefed them on employment of Indians in the hospitality industry abroad. Kamble-Shinde spoke on marketing trends in the tourism industry in the era of technology, online portals and social media.

The seminar had a good presence of members of the travel industry, as well as students from other institutes. The event was successfully coordinated by Archana K Biwal and Vandana M Joshi, senior faculty, travel and tourism department, along with other departments of the institute.
