Reinforcing its commitment to the Western India market, Yakult Danone India Pvt Ltd reinforced its commitment to the Western India market with the launch of Yakult, its probiotic health drink, in Goa recently.

Yakult was launched in India in 2008, and is presently available in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Punjab.

Minoru Shimada, managing director, Yakult Danone India Pvt Ltd, said, “We are happy to launch Yakult in Goa after the positive response from other major markets in India.”

“In Japan, Yakult is a household name, and people of all ages drink it as a part of their daily diet. Launched in 1935, we sell more than 35 million bottles every day in 38 countries and regions,” he added.

“In India, we have roped in Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra as our brand ambassador to spread the concept of probiotic food for healthy living among the masses, and the response has been tremendous,” Shimada said.

“Indian consumers are increasingly becoming conscious in the realm of health and fitness and opting for products that provide a health benefit. Our year to-date sales in India have also seen a steady double-digit growth,” he added.

Shimada said, “It is an undisputed fact that consumers are struggling with lifestyle disorders due to an erratic and sedentary lifestyle, poor nutrition and a lack of adequate sleep. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find solutions to counter this growing threat.”

“It is a surprising fact that the largest immune organ of our body (i e the intestine) is vital in determining our state of health, because it contains about 70 per cent of the immune cells of the human body, which improve our overall immunity and keep us protected,” he added.

Yakult contains 6.5 billion unique beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota), which offer specific health benefits that have been established through years of research.

The bacteria present in it reach the intestines alive in sufficient numbers and suppress the growth of harmful bacteria. The daily consumption of Yakult improves digestion and helps to build immunity.

Yakult Danone India follows a unique distribution system in India, besides the conventional retail route. It is distributed directly by the company to the consumer’s doorstep through Yakult ladies.

Presently, 260 Yakult ladies in India are involved in this system that has been created to help customers fully understand the health benefits of probiotics. About 80,000 Yakult Ladies across the globe are involved in this system, which contributes to almost 50 per cent of the brand’s sales globally.

In India, Yakult is priced at Rs 60 for a pack of five bottles. It is manufactured at a state-of-the-art hazard analysis and critical control points- (HACCP), Occupational Hazard and Safety Assessment Series- (OHSAS) and ISO 9001-certified facility at Sonepat, Haryana. It has a shelf life of 40 days from the date of manufacture when refrigerated.
